Society sells us that we should not be afraid because fear stands in the way of happiness as it prevents us from doing things we want, and to some extent it is true, but as everything in life, we must be cautious. An optimistic message like that can backfire if not careful. It's kind of like that elder person that always tells kids they can achieve whatever they want to if they really put themselves into it. Hmm, nope. You're probably not going to achieve everything you set your mind to, nor you are going to be whoever you want to be, especially if you set the bar very high. However, you can adopt a realistic approach and work hard to try to achieve your goals, and if you don't make it, that's also ok as long as you have enjoyed and learned along the way.
Well, being afraid is good, as long as it doesn't paralyze you. People often forget that fear can sometimes help you live longer.
