AUTONOMOUS PARKINGS

THE STORY BEHIND THE TEDDY BEAR

In November 1902, President Theodore Roosevelt participated in a hunting trip in Mississippi. During the hunt, some of his assistants captured a black bear and tied it to a tree so Roosevelt could easily shoot it. Roosevelt, seeing the bear in such a state, refused to shoot, considering it unsportsmanlike.

This act of compassion became well-known thanks to a political cartoon published in the Washington Post by Clifford Berryman.

Inspired by the story and the cartoon, Morris Michtom, a candy maker from Brooklyn, and his wife Rose decided to create a teddy bear. They placed the bear in their shop window with a sign that read "Teddy's Bear." The toy became extremely popular, and with Roosevelt's permission, they began mass production. At the same time, in Germany, toy manufacturer Richard Steiff also began producing teddy bears, further solidifying the toy's global popularity.

Teddy bears became a symbol of comfort and security for children. Their friendly design and soft touch provided solace and companionship, making the teddy bear a classic toy in homes around the world.
