PAJAMASdavid
The word pajamas has its origin in a Hindi and Persian word "paejama", which designated the habit used to preserve hygiene, the healthiness of the bed and provide greater comfort to the body while resting.
Until the 17th century, women and men had been wearing long buttoned nightgowns made of wool or velvet to avoid sleeping naked in bed, but with the rise of ship traveling, imported pants from Persia started to become popular, which were the first pajamas to arrive in the West.
These garments were loose, with the intention of allowing better freedom of movement when sleeping, and were made of soft fabrics, to facilitate breathability and comfort.
Thus, towards the end of the 19th century it had already become common practice to put on pajamas before going to sleep.
