PUNISHING THE LIVER

The liver is a vital organ that is responsible among other things for cleaning our blood, storing glycogen or synthesizing certain proteins. Given its importance, the liver is directly connected to our brain through long nerve connections that continuously send information to our autonomic nervous system, just like the heart or stomach.
When we get hit in that area there is a sudden pressure change in the liver that brutally activates all these nerve connections, collapsing and causing us to fall to the ground and feel a lot of pain.
Feeling pain is something that we can all understand without thinking about it, but why do we fall to the ground?
The blow to the liver makes our autonomic nervous system react by reducing the heart rate and dilating all the veins of our body. The combination of these 2 responses causes a sudden drop in blood pressure, which makes it difficult for our heart to continue pumping blood to the highest areas of our body, such as the brain. Since the body cannot allow blood to stop supplying the brain, the only option is to lower the height of the head to ensure that even with less pressure, the blood continues to flow and reach it.
This is the reason why, after receiving a blow to the liver, our body falls, either by kneeling down or completely lying on the ground.
