CRASHES HIS CAR INTO A POLICE STATION

At first glance, it might seem like an accident: a man, perhaps a bit intoxicated, crashes his car into a police station. These things happen. We see them almost daily. Maybe not into a police station, but in many other places: laundromats, restaurants, hair salons... But there's one detail that makes me suspicious. When he gets out of the car and raises his hands in submission, accepting his fate, there's a moment when he clenches his fists but keeps his index fingers upright, and that indicates satisfaction, pride, victory. Could it be an unlocked achievement? A bet? A new item to check off that list we all have of things to do before we die?

In this life, one no longer knows what to believe.

THE MISFORTUNE OF LEONARD CURE

The sheriff's office in Camden County, Georgia, released a video in which a police officer stops a vehicle for speeding and ends up getting into a fight with the driver, ultimately shooting and killing him.
Behind this story, there's another quite remarkable one that can help explain why Leonard Cure, the deceased driver, reacted the way he did. You see, Cure had spent 17 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit (he was released in 2020), and it's possible that when the officer told him he was going to jail (apparently, traffic violations in the state of Georgia are criminal offenses), it triggered a post-traumatic stress that made him react violently.
