THE TAPE FASHION

The "Black Tape Project" is a trend that uses adhesive tapes, mainly black, to create minimalist outfits on models. It emerged in Miami in 2008 as an artistic way to highlight the human body and explore sensuality. This fashion reflects the industry's move towards more basic and provocative looks, reducing the amount of clothing to almost nothing. Although popular in fashion shows, it’s more of a visual spectacle than everyday fashion, focusing on body and art over functionality.

Adhesive tape was invented by Richard Gurley Drew, an engineer at 3M, an American multinational known for its innovation in adhesives and other materials.

In 1925, Drew worked for 3M and was looking for a solution to a specific problem in the automotive industry. At that time, the available adhesive tapes were not very efficient or practical for the purpose he had in mind. Drew devised an adhesive tape with a paper backing that would allow users to apply it easily and cut it according to their needs.
In 1930, 3M officially launched the adhesive tape, which was the precursor to the well-known duct tape. Although Drew's adhesive tape was not initially a big commercial success, it gradually became more popular, and its uses diversified. The adhesive tape became a staple in homes, offices, and various industries due to its versatility and utility.

I see it as one of those ideas that you raise in a family dinner like "Hey, hear me out, I have an idea that's going to absolutely kill it", but then it makes people look at you with judgement. But the market is what it is, as unpredictable as it is unexpected.
