THE RACE FOR ROBOTICS FEELS A LOT LIKE THE SPACE RACE OF THE '60S

Lately, a bunch of robotics companies have been dropping videos of humanoid robots doing things straight out of a sci-fi movie. Flips, jumps, runs — all with a kind of fluidity most of us can only dream of. And even though they say it’s not CGI, some of those moves definitely raise an eyebrow.

EngineAI from Shenzhen and Boston Dynamics from the U.S. are showing off robots with insane coordination and agility. They claim it’s all real: reinforcement learning, years of development, teams of experts from places like Berkeley… but let’s be honest — doesn’t it feel more like a bold vision of the future disguised as a real demo?

Without diving into conspiracy theories, it brings to mind that old suspicion about the Moon landing being staged — allegedly filmed on a set just to beat the Soviets in the 1960s space race. Whether it was real or not isn’t the point; people believed it, and that was enough to seal the deal.

Maybe we’re watching something similar now in the robotics race: videos that aren’t exactly fake, but definitely aren’t showing where we are — they’re showing where they want us to think we’re headed.

MANDATORY MOBILIZATION

Videos have been circulating for months showing Ukrainian men of fighting age being stopped on the street and taken away by force to enlist. The government needs soldiers, and with not enough volunteers stepping forward, “mandatory mobilization” is starting to look a lot like legalized kidnapping.
And yes, this is happening right now in a European country. Not under our flag, but with a passport disturbingly similar to ours. Thinking this couldn’t happen here is either wishful thinking or pure amnesia.
Because if a war breaks out tomorrow and you’re of military age, you’d better hope you're not out delivering sushi on your bike.
