LOSS OF AUTHORITYAuthority is the attribute that gives a person, position, or profession the right to give orders. It is also the quality that ensures that an order is followed. Therefore, having authority means both giving commands and being obeyed. This authority, within a social consensus, is based on a legitimate recognition of those who demand it; Politicians, judges, police officers, as well as bosses, teachers, and parents, among others, are figures of authority.
But authority can also be lost, either through misuse or abuse, or through a lack of legitimacy. Authority is based on values and principles accepted by the majority, and it is forced to uphold them and set an example.
When a misuse of authority is combined with the fact that this new society is raised with the idea that the world revolves around the individual, and constantly bombarded with messages of freedom and rights, it causes them to perceive authority as a figure of repression, losing respect for it.
